Food and Drink

I actually had a few people wish me luck finding food to eat, but we found everything to be excellent! Again like other European cities, the food is fresh and flavorful. Even the pre-made sandwiches and prepared food at the grocery stores just seemed better.

The fish and chips featured above were hot and delicious and not greasy. They came with the ever popular mushy peas, which were really yummy!

Usually once a day we would find a lovely cafe or restaurant and try something new. Hot soup was a great choice on the chilly days. Many of the coffee shops featured scones, which we found to be moister than the type we get here. We found many international restaurants, also; the Indian food we had near their flat was incredible!

Often we would enjoy a cask ale even during the day. The alcohol content is low, so it goes perfectly with a late lunch. We certainly had more than our share of desserts too! When you walk as much as we did, you can splurge and not put on any weight.

Yummy rich risotto.

Sticky toffee, sweet and delicious after a meal!

Poached eggs and the most delicious ham.

Delicious potato dish for me, and meat pie for Mike.

Pasties from a specialty shop.

Amazing Japanese food.

Flavorful Indian food.

Ho tomato soup.

Rich coffee and yummy bars.

Chocolate raspberry amazement.

Blackberry crumble with vanilla sauce.

Chocolate ganache.

Need I say more?

On days when we stayed home, we would fill the table with charcuterie items–delicious cheeses, jams, fruit, spicy meats and wine.
