So we have made it to Frankfurt!! What a crazzzzzzzy trip! We were so wound up we got up at 6:30, which was really 5:30 a.m., but we just wanted to get from Ludwigsburg to Stuttgart. We got our ticket at the station, no problem. When they pulled the platform posts all off the boards we had a moment of stunned silence, but then the list popped back up and we got on and even had a seat for our 11 minute ride.
Really it was stupid because now we were in Stuttgart 2 and a half hours early, but really who cares. We went to the DB Lounge (Deutsche Bahn, which is their train system), but when the host saw our tickets he said, First Class……ok we schlepped off to sit with the regular people, but they are redoing the station so it was all construction and a big mess that will be amazing when we return someday! The place was packed with people, everyone trying to make their escape like us.
We had reserved seats so we were pretty sure that if the train arrived we would be on it. Our platform already had a different train on it, but finally it left and here came our train phew! We got on and so did a zillion other people with tons of luggage! It was like gridlock–no one could get to their seats, but again, who cares, we were moving! We finally got to our seats but turns out it was standing room only so the aisles were completely packed. A woman gave up getting to the bathroom to change her baby’s diaper and just changed that little butt on the table next to us haha! At that point we were so worried about getting off the train that we offered her our seats but she had a seat a ways back. Another baby started wailing and I thought, I hear ya kid!
A boy of about 10 had to get to the bathroom, so people shifted and put suitcases up on tables to let him by. It was actually nuts and the least relaxing train ride I’ve been on. Luckily though most people were getting off in Frankfurt like us. After several long minutes were we DONE taking trains in Europe, or so we hope for now!
Mike doesn’t believe in trams, buses, or taxis much so we made our way for 25 minutes around the airport and highways to our hotel. Now we are on the 10th floor and I’m sittings by the windows watching the planes land. Tomorrow I do not believe there will be a single one–though maybe we will get lucky tonight and the strike will be settled lol!
And now it’s Monday morning in Germany and there are no planes, trains, buses, or trams moving. The lot that was full of about 100 taxis lining up for the airport is completely empty.
We had a wonderful breakfast on the 12 floor, overlooking the city of Frankfurt in the distance. But no hope of seeing the city. It’s an hour and 45 minutes to walk there and it’s 46 degrees for the high.
Supposedly we find out tonight if we fly tomorrow. But not until we are in the air will I really think we are going home <3
What a crazy time! Looking forward to the latest update!!!!
