The night before we left I tried to capture how light it was at midnight. You could practically read a book and the birds were still chirping. This was as dark as it gets all night long, with the bright sunlight shining in the window at 3:50 a.m.
Mike and Katie dropped me off at a Bed & Breakfast near the airport on my last day in Norway. Even though it was only 11 a.m., they told me my room was ready before I even asked! It was such a cute place and kinda out in the middle of nowhere.
I took a walk and enjoyed the perfect weather, wildflowers, and quiet.
The porch was perfect for reaching and watching the planes take-off, the sky a perfect blue. Gradually more people started to arrive, all speaking Norwegian–the B&B was sold out for the night. They had a limited dinner menu but my spinach and feta pie was so delicious and clearly homemade.
Breakfast started at 3:30 a.m.–so early! I was up at 3 a.m. and felt really awake. The temperature dropped overnight and it was 43 degrees as 6 of us loaded the airport shuttle van at 5 a.m.
It was quiet in the Oslo Airport at that hour. It was really modern and shiny.
As we flew over beautiful Norway, I knew that Katie and Mike were down there somewhere in their tent and I hoped she was warm enough. I left my hat and jacket for her and knew they would work out the rest.
My first flight landed in London and was 20 minutes late, which had a bunch of us running through the airport to our connecting flights. There were still a few people in line at the gate so I asked the guy if I had time to run to the restroom and he assured me I did. Of course the line at the Ladies’ Room was long so………I went into the Men’s Room. I was NOT going to miss my flight because they don’t build bigger restrooms!
On my next flight I did something I’d never done before–I flew first class. Wow, is all I can say. My flight was so cheap that when the airline sent me an email saying I could “bid” on an upgrade, I did so and got it! It was so comfy!
So what’s next? Now I’m off to the exotic country of………………Pennsylvania! The James Family Reunion is held there every 2 years and this year we are also celebrating my dad’s 80th! Maybe I’ll post pictures of Pennsylvania where it really is just as lovely as many of the places I’ve seen! Meanwhile, this Retirement Experiment continues, the best of which is my family and friends <3
I am going to miss your Blog, you should turn it into a book. I have felt like I travelled with you for the past few months. Your pictures are fantastic and you really are a very good writer. Have a wonderful time in Pennsylvania and keep in touch.
Welcome back to the USA!!!! I enjoyed the trip with you!!!!
