This was the first time Mike and I had ever stayed in one place for so long. In Europe 2022, we bounced through cities and countries to the point of exhaustion. It was an amazing experience, but we agreed later that staying in one or two places would be more effective.
Two weeks in Edinburgh really gave us the chance to learn about the city and experience it on a more indepth level. We never stayed home, even if the weather was bad, but if we had plans they were flexible. Most of our adventures included an idea of food at a cool place they had visited or wanted to try, and always included a stop at another pub!
On this day we wandered toward the palace, making our way through an old cemetery.
I am sure I should have known that the famous economist, Adam Smith, lived his life in Scotland and was buried in Edinburgh.
In one cemetery it took my mind a minute to realize I was looking at a lifesize statute of Abraham Lincoln……huh!?!? The statue was from 1893 to commemorate Scottish soldiers who died in the Civil War. It also shows a freed slave and is believed to be the only statue outside the US which marks the Civil War. Wow.
It’s very hard to describe how much elevation you have to cover to really see the sights. Although there were travelers from many countries, everyone wore solid walking shoes! Apparently Mike was pretty comfortable trudging up and down the terrain, as he is playing with his phone in the featured photo above!
A statue depicting Sherlock Holmes was right down the street from their flat.
No matter how long our day was, Morgan would greet us at the door! When we were home she would frequently lay on the chilly tile by the front door.
