Last stop Germany

Our train today was maybe the nicest yet–lots of room and huge windows to watch the country change from Switzerland to Germany. Fields of wheat and Swiss cows, then we followed a beautiful river and waterfall so amazing, the friendly German couple across from us got our attention to make sure we saw it <3

Our first train arrived in Stuttgart, which looked like an great huge city stretching on for miles with adorable German houses. We only had a 10 minute ride from Stuttgart to Ludwigsburg, our destination, so we waited to buy tickets at the station. No problem, but our train was……..canceled. Yep. Who knows why. But this ticket was for a regional train, so it was good for 3 hours. Another train arrived a half hour later and soon we were at our hotel in Ludwigsburg.

At the Stuttgart station there was a sign for the refugees from Ukraine, directing them where to go.

Before we set out to explore the city, we finally sat down to enter the information required for our flight 5 days in advance. No big deal unless you forget to do it. That’s when Mike realized he had spelled my name wrong………..aghhhhhh!!! We decided then and there to double down our efforts to be careful and thoughtful during our last week. Obviously we were exhausted! The good news is we got Aer Lingus airline on the phone fairly easily and the agent was able to get it changed phew!

We wandered around the medium-sized city of 88,000. There were many shops and restaurants open and a beautiful square with two guys singing and playing guitar and drums. They played The Beatles, John Lennon, and some peaceful songs. People were lighting candles, so perhaps it was a celebration or a memorial. The square was so beautiful with low pretty buildings and churches.

So now we are watching Bugs Bunny in German, which somehow is even funnier! Our hotel is nice and we maybe we didn’t have a great view, but had a jackhammer digging up asphalt outside the window which was actually quite a show. It’s 57 degrees, which makes me so glad we waited and didn’t arrive when it was 37!
